After a fantastic entry by wildcard holder SCM Ohma Mozzart Bet Timisoara, forward Nikola Gajic was named MVP of the month of September and October in the Alpe Adria Cup. The Serbian basketball player holds the first ever such award on a monthly basis in this competition.
Timisoara flew into their first Alpe Adria Cup campaign like a whirlwind. With three wins in a row, they remain the only 100 percent team in Group D and are on course to secure a place in the quarter-finals as soon as possible. The strength of the Romanian team is evident from the fact that they are winning their games by an average of almost 22 points.
They kicked things off with two Opening Event wins, over Zabok 88:63 and Rogaška 103:97. They then confirmed their form at home, beating this year’s Final Four participant Spišskí Rytieri 106:72 in their first appearance. “We didn’t know what to expect from our first participation in the AAC, but we are happy with how well we started and hope to continue. It’s a good competition and also for Romanian basketball, because another team is playing European competitions,” the Timisoara player assessed the team’s performances in the AAC so far.
Thirty-one-year-old Gajic, who has been part of Timisoara since 2020, has been a vital part of the team’s success so far. He is averaging 15.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. All this on top of a great shooting success rate – 66.7% on two-pointers, 47.8% on three-pointers and 80% from the free-throw line. The 15 rebounds against Rogaška is the second-best performance in that category in the current AAC season. “It’s an individual award, but my teammates helped me to get it and I’m grateful to them,” Gajić said about the award.
