Alpe Adria Cup brings big news for the next edition. In addition to the men’s version of the competition, we will officially see the first edition of the women’s division and we will see high quality teams right from the start.

After the successful test, which was the Winter Tournament in Maribor, Slovenia, with KAŽL Split as the winner, it was a clear goal for the AAC to open this competition to women’s teams as well. Several months of preparation and communication with the clubs was successful beyond expectations, and the competition management can now officially open the AAC Women’s Division.

„We are delighted, that after almost two years from first discussions about women’s version of the Alpe Adria Cup, we can announce its inaugural season. Thanks to great cooperation between national basketball federations of Austria, Croatia, Slovakia and Slovenia, two teams from each federation will compete in its first season. We see a great potential in this much needed international confrontation for our women’s clubs and players and we will organize the whole competition with the same standards as the men’s Alpe Adria Cup,“ Marek Imre, competition director, said more about the whole implementation process.

So who will we see in the first edition of the women’s version of the AAC? For Slovakia, it will be the current champion Piešťanské Čajky and their final opponent Slávia Banská Bystrica. Both teams played in the Eurocup last season. Austria is also represented by the current league champion – BKS Duchess Klosterneuburg and ambitious newcomer SKN St.Pölten.

From Croatia it will be the winner of the Winter Tournament KAŽL Split and the finalist of the 2022/2023 season KK Trešnjevka 2009. Slovenia, which is currently experiencing success in women’s basketball, will also have its representatives. We will see a finalist from this country as well, namely ŽKK Triglav, and ŽKD Maribor rounds out the lineup of teams.

Played in tournament fashion, the top two teams from each group will compete in the Final Four, where we will recognize the first-ever winner of the women’s version of the AAC. We will bring you the complete group stage schedule in the near future.
